CT Scan in Ranchi

Computed Tomography (CT) scan for rapid brain and head imaging — coordinated by Dr. Yuvraj Lahre, DM Neurology (AIIMS), with expert interpretation at Neurovision Clinic, Ranchi.

What is CT Scan (Computed Tomography)?

CT (Computed Tomography) scan is a diagnostic imaging procedure that uses X-rays and computer processing to create detailed cross-sectional images (slices) of the body. In neurology, CT scans of the brain provide rapid, vital information in emergency situations. A brain CT can quickly detect bleeding (hemorrhage), skull fractures, large tumors, and major structural abnormalities. Because a CT scan takes only a few minutes, it is the first-line imaging test for suspected acute stroke, head trauma, and neurological emergencies where time is critical. Dr. Yuvraj Lahre at Neurovision Clinic coordinates CT scans at trusted centers in Ranchi and provides expert neurological interpretation in the context of your full clinical picture.

Why is CT Scan (Computed Tomography) Done?

  • Rapidly rule out brain hemorrhage before administering clot-dissolving treatment for stroke
  • Evaluate head trauma — detect skull fractures, brain bleeding, or swelling
  • Investigate sudden, severe headache (thunderclap headache) to rule out subarachnoid hemorrhage
  • Detect large brain tumors, abscesses, or structural abnormalities
  • Evaluate acute neurological deficits of sudden onset
  • Assess hydrocephalus (excess fluid in the brain)
  • Guide certain neurological procedures and surgeries

How CT Scan (Computed Tomography) is Performed

1

Preparation

Remove all metal objects including jewelry, glasses, and hairpins. You may change into a hospital gown if needed.

2

Positioning

You lie on a motorized table. For a brain CT, your head is positioned in a cradle to keep it still and aligned.

3

Scanning

The table slides into the CT machine — a large doughnut-shaped scanner. The X-ray tube rotates around you, capturing images from multiple angles. The scan itself takes only 1–5 minutes. You must lie still.

4

Contrast (if needed)

For some scans, an iodine-based contrast dye is injected through an IV to enhance visibility of certain structures. This adds a few minutes to the procedure.

5

Results

Images are immediately available for review. In emergencies, results are interpreted urgently. Dr. Lahre reviews the scans and correlates them with your clinical symptoms.

How to Prepare

  • Remove all metal objects — jewelry, glasses, hairpins, dentures
  • Inform staff if you are pregnant or might be pregnant — CT uses radiation and is generally avoided in pregnancy
  • If contrast dye is needed, inform your doctor of any kidney problems, diabetes, or previous allergic reactions to contrast
  • You may be asked to avoid food for a few hours before a contrast-enhanced CT scan
  • Wear comfortable, metal-free clothing
